WHAT: The Progressive®Insurance New York Boat Show®, presented by Discover Boating, returns to the Javits Center January 26-30, 2022, welcoming nautical novices, seasoned sailors and water lovers an all-access pass to dive into the boating lifestyle. With more than 415,000 new boat owners taking to the water in the past 18 months, demand for boating remains at an all-time high. Attendees are invited to celebrate the homecoming of this annual boating tradition as they see and shop the most comprehensive selection of boats and gear in the tri-state area, learn new skills, and connect with fellow boating enthusiasts at the world’s first and longest-running boat show.

The U.S. boating boom continues with record 2021 sales and strong momentum in 2022 as more Americans continue returning to and rediscovering the outdoors.
  • Interest in boating has never been greater with more than 415,000 first-time boat buyers entering the market and a total of 15.6 million recreational boats in use in 2020.
  • The industry saw tremendous growth with boat sales reaching a 13-year high in 2020, which remain at elevated levels.
  • New powerboat unit sales in 2021 surpassed 300,000 units; only the second time the industry has hit that number in nearly 15 years (2020 and 2021), closing 2021 an estimated 4 to 6 percent below record highs in 2020 and 7 percent above the five-year sales average.
  • New boat sales in 2022 are projected to be on par with record 2020 levels.
  • Annual U.S. sales of boats, marine products and services totaled $49.3 billion in 2020, up 14% from 2019.
  • New York & Tri-State area sales were up 13% or higher in 2020, and dealers are selling new boats as fast as they receive them. As consumer demand continues, the New York Boat Show is a must-attend event to see and shop the most comprehensive selection of boats in the area and place orders for future fun on the water.

    • New York Boating Sales totaled $966 million in 2020 including new powerboats, outboard engines, boat trailers and aftermarket accessories, up 19.6% compared to 2019. New York ranked 7th nationwide in total expenditures in 2020.
    • Connecticut Boating Sales totaled $257.9 million in 2020 including new powerboats, outboard engines, boat trailers and aftermarket accessories, up 31% compared to 2019. CT ranked 31st nationwide in total expenditures in 2020.
    • New Jersey Boating Sales totaled $506 million in 2020 including new powerboats, outboard engines, boat trailers and aftermarket accessories, up 13% compared to 2019. New Jersey ranked 19th nationwide in total expenditures in 2020.
